Full Detail Itinerary by Day
Day #1-3 | July 2-4 Tue-Thur | Flight - Denver - Flight (how is that for short and to the point. I don't like to fly through Denver without a visit with my Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law. So I come a few days ahead of my trip and stay with them. It also is nice when you fly to do one flight a day and take a break and then continue. Got First Class from Boise to Denver, but did not get first class on the Denver to London flight, but it is all good. Having my chai tea latte and yogurt/blue berries on their deck (after I finally got out of bed ☺, perfect temps and weather. |
Day 3-4 | July 4-5 Thur-Friday | Flight Denver to Heathrow Have some United Club passes so nice and quite with food and drinks included. Tube to Wembley Stadium Area. I have a day and half to just chill and maybe spend some time in a British Pub. I slept a lot of hours after my night flight with not much sleep, but I normally put a day in the schedule for rest after any long haul flight. |
Day #4-8 | July/5-9 Fri-Tue | (not my photo but not as messy as it is now ☺) The view from my sky light window. Bill at the AC/DC Dive Bar Event before the concert (it's a bar so kind of a dark photo of me) The event center where they did the event is an old horse stables so lots of individual rooms in the stables and some areas that were opened up. After my video it goes to other you tube videos. Refresh screen to return to my video. Camden Market a huge mall and entertainment center where the AC/DC dive bar was located. Me inside the top part of the "C" taking a selfie. Dinner at Camden Market I might get an award for the world's laziest tourist, I have been sleeping in and lounging around the apartment. My only excuse is that during part of the day it has been raining. THE AC/DC CONCERT Wow what a Excellent Experience !!! Got there really early and watch the fans pour into the stadium. My seat with lots of leg room. Another clip of Concert A very interactive experience, the band really involved with the fans, they would do one line of a song and have the fans doing the next line. Even in the upper levels where I was very active fans. The closing of the Concert it was over 2 hours long and I now decided my favorite AC/DC song - - all of them. I judge bands by how many of their songs I like, that puts AC/DC at the top with 100% of songs that I like. |
Day #8-9 | July 9-10 Tue-Wed | Travel to Gatwick and the Sofitel Hotel Nothing like a good breakfast outside the train station before my travels ☺ The train from Wembley area to the Gatwick Airport Actually two Buses and Two Trains. I had the journey all planned but along the way people suggested alternate routes that saved me about 30 minutes. People are always so nice and helpful (well 99% of people) sometimes it is easy to focus on the other 1%, we need to focus on all the good people and to be one of the 99% that are nice. Crossing the Thames river in London Stay at Sofitel London Gatwick Airport Good Pizza with White wine what more could you want. |
Day #9-23 | July 10-24 Wed-Wed | Flight London to Santorini (Greek Island in the Mediterranean) Oia Santorini stay at Maria's Place My EasyJet flight to Santorini Lunch Greek Salad at the Santorini MOU Tavern just up the hill from Maria's Place Apartments where I am staying. Views of Santorini View Scenic view from everywhere Maria's Place Apartment Entrance to Maria's Place, it is just a little off the main area of town, close enough for a short walk, but enough off it is really quite. WineGreek Salads Local Beer Two Local beers Another view from my Deck My deck again Excavation of a city that is about 5000 years old. It was buried by the volcanic blast that changed the layout of the island. The descriptions of the island before the blast are the same as the descriptions of Atlantis and the time frame also fits the legend of Atlantis. And the civilization that was here at the time also matches the power and influence as told in the legend of Atlantis. There is another whole museum dedicated to the legend of Atlantis that goes into great detail that this island was Atlantis My ride for two days to explore the island from end to end. lots of people at this really nice beach. View from the light house at the other end of the curved shape island, right in the center of the photo is the other end where I am staying. A small beach Another small beach. Another small beach, these have a small steep road to get to them. I picked the more crowded beach for lunch and a swim, with a restaurant right behind me that brought food and drink right to your rented beach chair and umbrella. And of course there is deserts. More Deserts. And every day people gather for the much anticipated event of the day - A sunset! Today I watch it from my deck. The roads on the island can be narrow, as we passed another van on the way to the sunset cruise, the mirror clipped the mirror on another van. Saw some plastic fly but no big damage, at the next stop to pick someone up the driver check the damage. Very nice Catamaran trip on the Dream Catcher by Santorini Sailing, recommended by Anna at Maria's Place where I am staying, everything she has recommended has been excellent - This Included! I was thinking a day cruise, she said "No" do a sunset cruise, 38 or 18 people cruise, she said you are traveling solo so go with the 38 more people to talk to, she was right A great boat and crew, with plenty shade and sun alike. Up in front of the boat enjoying the sun and the great views of the island as we sail around it and into the Caldara - what use to be the island. What a nice relaxing time, afternoon and evening. View from the front of the whole boat. A wonderful group of young people adopted me for the cruise. You meet the nicest people when you travel. When for a sunset cruise, but the moon was also a great view. The start of the sunset, see all the boats doing a sunset cruise also. It continues to get better and better. Great Views Well another wonderful day come to an end! The Traffic (Boat) Jam going back into the harbor after the sunset. Lots of boats returning to the harbor after the big event of the day on the island - Sunset! Sail around the island into the Caldara that was the center of the island before it blew up and sank. Swimming around the two newer island that formed after the big event. It is nice and easy to float in sea water, this also has some sulfur in it from the underwater springs, you can see the sulfur on the rocks by the water line. Still enjoying the local wine, very unique & good flavor. The Pasta has been great, I have had endless variety of pastas. All the dessert have been over the top good and I have eaten way more then I should have ☺ This is a lemon tart. Not a big beer drinker but I had to have the one that described my travel style, and also it turned out to be really good. Another beer that I took personally, but it came in a wine bottle size, so I did not try it, I do have to find my way and walk home. Another dessert, just to make me seem better then I have been, I am not going to post all the desserts I had, because people will think I have no self control ☺ Me at my apartment , the blue one in the center, but I was currently going to shade, a slight tan is good, bright red not so much. Definitely on my "keepers list" I came for a week and stayed two weeks, lots to do and lots to see and lots to just relax and enjoy on the Island of Santorini. Another view of my apartment. The sunset is the big event of the day and the island kind of stops at sunset to enjoy the endless variety of the sunset. Well my time on the island comes to an end. lots of hugs from the staff and Maria's Place My last breakfast, they had a different variety everyday for breakfast and run it till 11 am so you could sleep in and still not miss breakfast. But this morning I am up early (well not really early, everything is relative) to get my ride to the airport. |
Day #23-24 | July 24-25 Wed-Thu | Fight to Zurich Switzerland, on Edelweiss Airlines Stay at the CitizenM Hotel, my favorite chain hotel. Walking to the plane. A selfie in front to the CitizenM Welcome Fun signs everywhere you look. I think my favorite sign is the do not disturb: "don't come in, there's someone naked in here" I pushed the "save the planet" switch and the room got pitch black, very funny. Yes the pen is in my bag as I post this. You can have a green room it you want or a blue one or any other color you want. |
Day #24-25 | July 25-26 Thu-Fri | Train and then Bus to Vaduz, Liechtenstein and stay at the Hotel Vaduzerhaf When all out for breakfast as I waited for my train. Vaduz, Liechtenstein is in a narrow valley with very impressive mountains lining the valley. From downtown you can look up and see building on the cliff right above town. A view of downtown from my hotel. The Hotel Vaduzerhaf is completely self service. I checked in and went to my room without seeing anybody. Saw a person in the kitchen at the self service breakfast, but did not see anybody at check-out. Very nice hotel with a good downtown view from my balcony. My Hotel room and view. Even the snack bar was unoccupied, just a small box on the wall to put your money into for snacks. Lots of art work in the pedestrian walking downtown area. This was interesting. Another interesting. A giant hand. The art work was all over and interesting I went to a couple of museums the art work there was not my cup of tea. |
Day #25-26 | July 26-27 Fri-Sat | Bus and Train Liechtenstein to Zurich, back at the CitizenM Hotel Another fine brunch at a train station, waiting for my Train to Zurich Swiss County Side I'm pretty sure this sign on the door is for the Men's WC (Restroom) |
Day #26-27 | July 27-28 Sat-Sun | Still in Zurich, but moving to the Airport Radisson Blu Hotel so I can sleep in and not have to get up early and get to the airport, because I am already there. Bill Finds a beach lounger even in the Zurich Airport. Airport related Photos. An outdoor cafe at the airport called the "Air" Restaurant. View from my hotel of the Zurich Airport. A United flight getting ready to take off to somewhere in the afternoon. Not mine, mine is a morning flight. |
Day #27-28 | July 28-29 Sun-Mon | Flight from Zurich to Chicago. I am travelling as a Standby the flight had zero seats available on the flight and a standby list of 6, which I was #6 the bottom of the list. So "no" chance of getting on or so it looked. But the first two rules of traveling standby are try for the first flights in the morning and wait for a flight even if it looks like there isn't a change. Stay at the Chicago Hilton at the airport because the ongoing flight on the 28th does not look very good for seats, but mainly because after a long flight I would rather relax and stay overnight then continue on in the next day. Also I can catch the city bus and have some Chicago Pizza. |
Day #28 | July 29 Monday | Home in Boise |
Day #0 | July 30 Tue | Sleep in and start looking at where to go next. |
